3. Script Final Draft 25

Beginning

Set in the driveway of a suburban house and inside Cassy’s car.

Mid Shot

The film opens with a shot of a car windshield from the outside. The glass is dark but transparent, look closely and you can see Cassy in the driver’s seat scrolling her phone.

*Stevie Wonder’s Superstition can be heard faintly coming from inside the car. *

The camera is still for a moment, then in white bold letters “After The Wake” appears on the windshield.

*Either music or sound effect, possibly even sound of engine, starts and/or grows volume with title, also fading out as title does*

The title disappears and the camera travels to the right in a curve, passing the driver’s side window it smoothly goes through the open rear driver’s side window.

*All the while Superstition is growing in volume, volume plateaus once fully in the car *

Now horizontal with the seats the camera settles.

From the back seat we see Cassy *turn off the music* playing with her phone, then throw the phone into the passenger's seat *sound of phone hitting seat, possibly exasperated sounds from Cassy*.

End Shot

New Shot

Close up

The camera is now above the passenger’s seat.

*It’s silent, only the sound of the car running can be heard. Possibly single orchestral chord very low volume*

In the frame is the phone Cassy just threw, her purse, and an envelope labeled “Condolences” covering a lengthy letter.

End Shot

New Shot

Mid shot

*Orchestral chord continues*

The camera is facing Cassy from the door of passenger’s side. Her eyes are cast down, seemingly studying the condolence letter with anguish. In a flash of frustration Cassy breaks her eyes away and throws her head back into the head rest of her seat.

*Cassy sighs. *

There is something she is reluctant to do.

We stay for a moment *possible increase in volume and cut off of orchestral chord* before Cassy *pops the door* to her car open.

End Shot

New Shot

Long shot, low angle

The camera is behind Cassy *silence* as she *closes the door* and walks up the driveway *different orchestral chord*.

End Shot

New Shot

Set in front of the front door to the house.

Long shot

The camera is again behind Cassy, but this time no movement is captured. Cassy stands just before the threshold of the front door; we can’t see her face, but hesitation is there.
